Missing Thümmlitz 3

The following is a song I wrote on June 7th, 2015. This song was written for my host family, which I then performed on my host parents' wedding night. Thümmlitz 3 was my host home for my entire exchange year, which inspired me to write this song. Each stanza represents a month I had spent in Germany. It starts in September and ends in June, loosely encompassing my entire exchange year.

Thümmlitz 3, oh Thümmlitz 3

Out the window, the cornfields flow.

The setting sun, a dark yellow.

And in the night all was dark,

Looked to the sky and saw the shining stars.

The magic ride; the horses strong,

Treading hard to the beat of the song.

Crisp autumn apples waiting to be picked.

Sweet apple juice, can I get another sip of-

Thümmlitz 3, oh Thümmlitz 3

Play it cool, but speak to me slow.

Forgive me if I can't answer. It's just- I don't know.

Language is hard, but I did learn.

Leipzig's language course was heaven on earth.

School's going well. I have two best friends

And I'm feelin' dumb 'cause I'm barely learning.

But it's ok, Weihnacht Markt is here.

And it's Christmas time, and I feel the Christmas cheer at-

Another camp, with AFS.

With all my multiculti friends.

A fresh new year, living in a fresh new place.

Time is quickly picking up its pace.

But February was a time to face past fears.

I'm not very sporty. I'm being very clear.

They sure showed me patience and pushed me on.

They're great at skiing, and they rock at sports, they're-

Thümmlitz 3, oh Thümmlitz 3

March was hard. The year was too

But like the rest, we got through.

Not giving in, never giving up.

More memories to be made, more time to have more fun!

Springtime and all is alive.

The drizzle of rain calms my busy mind.

Rapeseed fields grow sky-high,

Tinted yellow and brightly shine for-

Thümmlitz 3, oh Thümmlitz 3

A seventeenth birthday spent the week away.

Another wish to silently pray...

I will do those things, the ones I didn't get to do:

Buy this, see that, meet some more people too.

The last month is bittersweet,

Yet it loudly screams to me-

What an amazing year,

You've managed to make a home of here-

Thinking of leaving's gonna make me cry-

Thümmlitz 3.

You've taught me so much, and that's no lie-

Thümmlitz 3.

You best believe Imma be back someday-

Thümmlitz 3.

What is there more to say?

I love you guys, you're family.

Oh, Thümmlitz 3
